Baby-LED-weaning is all the rage these days. Encouraging your baby to eat on his own is so important for so many reasons. In the beginning, things like steamed broccoli and carrots are great, but our "foodie babies" need more culinary pizazz! My goal is always to get as much nutrients as possible in one sitting - if we are going to make a mess, lets make it count!

Jack loves this variation of a "protein-ball". There are so many easy, one-bite protein recipes for us gym-rats. Why not help a baby out and get him rolling in on some post workout gains? Your crawling, grabbing, pulling, sliding, opening, lifting, standing, exploring baby is, after all, working out literally all day long.

...And these are great for non-vegan babies too! Just sayin'. :)

Grab a small bowl and mash up 1/4 of one perfectly ripe avocado (you have to use it this very minute or it will go bad the next minute anyway). Leave some small intact chunks for the 8 month+ babes.

Next add in a teaspoon of refrigerated organic peanut butter. The other nut butters may be a bit too soft- but give it a go if you are so inclined.

I know your mouth is already watering but keep going. Now, add in 2 tablespoons of cooked, organic quinoa and mix it around.

At this point you can spoon-feed it to your baby and he will be more than happy to eat it. In fact, anyone switching their child from a non-vegan diet to plant based, I recommend using avocado in food trials to help entice the picky eaters. Who doesn't love avocado??

You see me rollin'...

Take small scoops of the mixture, about 1/2 of a teaspoon each and roll it between your fingers gently. Voila! A mini-protein ball! So cute right? Your baby will love the taste and how fun it is to eat. The texture really helps encourage them to chew as well!

HINT: If you make some extra, they keep nicely in the fridge for the day.
