I thought I would start a blog post dedicated to wonderful, inspirations by Broghies. If you are not already aware of life with Broghies, let me tell you, it's a game changer. A friend of mine introduced me to these pantry staples and I feel the need to pay-it-forward. Started by a small town, Canadian family and named after their two daughters, Broghies by definition are wafers made from popped grain - but in reality, they are so much more.

A crunchy, light, guilt-free, snack. Strong enough to withhold your favourite dips and toppings - I have used them as the bowl for my stir fry and rice- #🌱💪🏻! Light enough, that children and young, teething babies can enjoy them - great for PB and banana spreads. For some reason, my dogs are obsessed with them - though the source of their supply is still unkown...

I typically use Broghies where one might use a rice cake, bread, cracker, a bowl and more recently a pie crust!! FYI to all parents, they are cheaper and last longer than Mum Mums. I know of two grocery suppliers in my area (Ottawa, Canada) that carry them, Sobeys and Loblaws - typically found in the baked goods or bread department
Many recipes are already out there to satisfy almost any craving - just do a quick google search or check out the "Broghie" Instagram page. You can also go to www.broghies.com for a more in depth Broghie experience.
For my first Broghie recipe share, I thought it ought to be a goodie. The inspiration for this recipe came to me all at once from two separate sources, moulding together into one big, bright idea. I was feeding Jack a pumpkin purée, day-dreaming about the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and all the treats I would be missing, due to it being so close to my competition. It dawned on me after sneaking a bite of Jacks food (a common occurrence), that it tasted like pumpkin pie filling. After a few moments of getting excited about the possibility of being able to creat a healthy pie-filling, I also started running through my options for prep-friendly pie crust. It didn't take long - Broghies - let's do this!
Pumpkin Pie On Prep

All you will need...
2 tablespoons of Pumpkin purée
2 tablespoons of Unsweetened apple sauce
2 tablespoons of Pea protein powder (Bulkbarn)
1 tablespoons of Sunflower seed butter (Bulkbarn)
1/4 teaspoon of Nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of Cinnamon
Broghies (2-3 for this recipe)
Mix the first 6 ingredients together...

Then smear it on your Broghie! Seriously - it's that easy to have healthy pumpkin pie in your life!!

You can top your pie's anyway you like! But just plain is the best! Hope you enjoy!

HINT: Prep your filling ahead of time but don't dress the Broghies until chow-time. If left for over 30 minutes they will become soggy!
If you don't have, or can't find Broghies where you live you can use a corncake, Snack Bread or just eat the filling out of the bowl!
