My healthy, vegan, muffins for your four-legged baby ~ as seen on IG.

Muffers for Puppers

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

You will need...

2 cups of spinach - steamed until soft

1/2 cup of pumpkin

1 cup of cooked chickpeas - canned is fine but use BPA free lining, drain and rinse

2 tablespoons of pea protein - found at Bulkbarn ~ very inexpensive ~ very handy

1 tablespoon of ground chia

1 chia egg - tablespoon of chia with 3 tablespoons of water. Mix and let sit for 5 minutes

1 tablespoon of ground flax

1/2 cup of unsweetened apple sauce

1/2 banana

1/2 blueberries

1 pinch of cinnamon

Blend all ingredients together in a food processor or mixer. Pour into a mixing bowl then add:

1 1/2 cups of spelt flour - or flour of choice

1 1/2 cups of rolled oats - quick oats will work. Could also try quinoa flakes

Tiki, my 6-year-old, one-eyed chihuahua.

Mix all ingrednts together using an electric beater - or use your Strong Hand! Does anyone remember that from Scary Movie? No? Moving on ....Transfer your mix into a non-stick muffin pan or silicon cups.

For regular sized Muffers (aproximatly 3 tablespoons), bake for 30 minutes. For mini Muffers (~1 tablespoon) bake for 15 minutes. Cool completely and serve to someone with a good sit and a gentle mouth 🐶

Preservation: Yay no preservatives! However, this does mean you need to keep them in the fridge for up to a week. OR what I do is freeze them and take one out for each dog to thaw for the day -a little bed time appreciation for being the cutest fur-face all day.

HINT: Calories in verses calories out goes for the puppers too! We don't want overweight dogs rolling over for treats (because thats all they are physically able to do) giving the plant-based pooches a bad rap. Treats should be given in moderation and counted as your dogs daily caloric allowance. Regular Muffers are about 45-55 calories and mini Muffers come in around the 15-25 calorie mark.

Now sit!

Walker, my 2-year-old white Shepherd.
